Save Barton Moss Green Belt - new dates

Save Barton Moss Green Belt - new dates

by Mark Bright

New dates have been announced by the group protesting against the loss of Green Belt land in Salford.

The controversy courted by Salford Council - over changes to the priority given to green belt land in Salford - has caused a massive upsurge in the number of local people coming together to protest.

The latest dates for the above have been released by the Save our North West Green Belt group - which encompasses protest groups including the "Protest against turning Barton Moss into an industrial estate".

Subject: Save our North West Green Belt protest group

*Thurs 11 Feb at 7 pm at Higher Irlam Social Club - protest committee meeting (please attend if you wish to be part of the committee or already are)

*Wed 24 Feb at 7 pm at Higher Irlam Social Club - public meeting (public meeting will then occur monthly on the third Thursday of every month at 7 pm at the Social Club)

*Sat 27 Feb at 12 noon at the top of Cutnook Lane for a "protest walk to Chat Moss Extraction Site".

Creator Jackie Anderson said:
"As you will see we have changed our group name so that it can encompass other interests of which Barton Moss is the main concern but as we await the outcome of the core stategy review, we are keen to put the focus on other aspects such as the peat extraction on the Moss.

"The Lancashire Wildlife Trust have set up a campaign to stop further peat extraction on the Moss (the expiry date is 2010) and we fully support them.

We have managed to get approval to run Salford Friends of the Earth and will be looking to set up a launch meeting probably in March. If you are interested in joining us, let me know."
