Eccles has gone to Specsavers
By: Tony Flynn Some good news at last for Eccles Precinct following all the adverse publicity regarding the proposed new Tesco store at West One and the effect it may have on the Precinct. Last Saturday saw the Mayor Cllr Roger Lightup officially open the new Specsavers shop, watched by curious shoppers. I spoke to the manageress of the shop Tracey Cooper who told me that the opening of the store went well, but more importantly it has provided six new jobs for local people, which is good news. Hopefully with the brand name of Specsavers coming to Eccles this may attract more high street names to the Precinct and we may see a upturn in its fortunes. Entertainment was provided by a huge green ladybird/stick insect who managed to both amuse and startle shoppers, and judging by his outfit he should have gone to Specsavers.
