Salford snarled up with Pendleton truck accident
Long delays on the A580 this morning after an 18-tonne recycling truck overturned at Pendleton roundabout. At approximately 07.30 this morning (26 August), a vehicle hired by the recycling company Viridor was involved in an accident at the Pendleton Roundabout in Salford. The police are currently on the scene. The vehicle, carrying 18.8 tonnes of mixed materials for recycling from the Cobden Street resource recovery facility, was travelling at 25 mph when the accident occurred, resulting in the spillage of the load and of some diesel. Buses are backed up throughout Salford, the M10 to Brookhouse being particularly affected. Buses from Eccles to Manchester are still not crossing Pendleton roundabout and are instead terminating at Salford Precinct. Traffic is backed up along Eccles Old Road and the A6, Broad Street. A spokesperson for the company noted: "The driver of the vehicle was unhurt. He is very experienced and the vehicle load was well below capacity. No other vehicles were involved in the accident; however a cyclist has slipped over on the fuel and has been taken to hospital. Viridor will be sending a loading shovel and wrecker to remove the vehicles as soon as police allow them onto the scene." No-one else was hurt at the scene.
