6000 show for spectacular Irlam festival
by Roger Lightup
The sun came out and so did the crowds at the 60th Anniversary Irlam & Cadishead Show yesterday with the festival committee pulling out all the stops to celebrate in style. Over 6000 people thronged into Princes Park in Irlam to be entertained, educated and relieved of lots of money for good causes at a number of fundraising stalls. A massive car boot sale attracted a lot of interest and in the main arena there was a constant stream of international entertainers: George Orange from Chicago; the Amazing Cirque du Salford, and the incredible Kawa Circus from Rajasthan featuring a young performer doing a helicopter spin on top of a pole held by another member of the troupe. Training sessions in circus skills, woodturning or pottery were also on offer. The day was topped off by a truly spectacular firework display. Congratulations to the small organising committee for providing such an enjoyable day for everyone who attended. This is the former Mayor of Salford's first report for SalfordOnline.
