Video: Sacred Trinity Church celebrates 375 golden years
By: Tony Flynn
Sacred Trinity Church, Chapel Street, Salford this year celebrates it's 375th anniversary this year and to celebrate the event the church has held a special exhibition. The church has lots of photographs from over the years in a special area showing weddings, whit walks, baptisms, school photographs, school records, local soldiers, parishioners and the old Flat Iron market. Community reporters from Peoples Voice Media had interviewed parishioners and their memories were recorded, several listening posts were installed with headphones so that you can listen to their memories, whilst videos were on constant loops showing photographs and events relating to the church. A large crowd attended and were soon reminiscing about their school days and church memories, all aided by the photographs and listening posts dotted around the room. I spoke to Les and Margaret Kott who have been associated with the church for over sixty years, Les is the church warden and Eucharist assistant, was also a member of the choir, they were both married at the church as was their daughter. Edward Rowbottom aged 84 went to the Trinity Church in 1930 and still attends the church, he is also a relative of famous market trader Jack Winder. Chris Doyle community art worker for churches on Chapel Street, was the co-ordinator of the project and has done a marvellous job. Canon Andy Salmon gave thanks to everybody who were involved in this project. Also in attendance were the Arch Deacon of Salford, David Sharples, Mayor of Salford, George Wilson and the Vice Chancellor of Salford University, Professor Martin Hall. The exhibition run's until the end of the month and is a must see for anybody interested in the church and history relating to the Trinity area.
