Calling all trendy fashionistas
Did you just buy that vintage belt you were after, or that classic pair of trousers, or maybe you just bought that pre-loved lamp and coffee table that look great with your new retro feel front room? Or just maybe, you had last night’s take away for breakfast this morning? Well, you are already watching your waste and bang on trend! To encourage more people to watch their waste, Recycle for Greater Manchester (R4GM) is launching Watch Your Waste Week from 14th to 26th November. So if you are style conscious and want to save your pennies, we want to style you and your home and to help; we are hosting a number of free events across Greater Manchester: Sew Good Workshops Fancy a new wardrobe and have an unloved piece of clothing? Bring it with you and we will help you give it a stylish make over. Workshops will be delivered in partnership with TRAID. Pre-Loved Living Rooms Still looking for that coffee table for your front room? In partnership with local furniture re-use organisations R4GM is hosting second hand living room displays, where you can see how second hand furniture does not mean second rate and can be a fantastic stylish addition to your home without costing you the earth. You will also find out about how you can donation your unwanted furniture for a good cause. Love Food Hate Waste Cookery Classes Love Food Hate Waste? R4GM invites you to learn more about using your left overs, making your freezer your new best friend and to then cook and eat tasty dishes with a qualified nutritionist. The classes are delivered in partnership with Naturally Wells. Councillor Neil Swannick, Chair of Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority said “Watch Your Waste Week is all about style and fashion to encourage residents to think re-use. "With Greater Manchester generating 1.1 million tonnes of waste last year, we are looking at innovative ways to encourage residents to think about reducing their waste by re-using unwanted items in new ways.” Lyla Patel, Head of Education at TRAID added “Shrink your fashion footprint, take control of your wardrobe and go easy on your wallet by learning to up-cycle with TRAID as we mark Watch Your Waste Week with our legendary Sew Good workshops across Greater Manchester between 14 – 26 November. "Whatever your skill level, we will give you the confidence to alter, mend and remake your clothes with a few simple up-cycling techniques and customisation secrets. "Make the most of your clothes by reusing them, and transform ill fitting, damaged and unloved clothes into fabulous sustainable pieces.” Final Celebration Event With Fashion Show Join us for a night of pure fashion! R4GM will also be hosting a celebration event with a fashion show on 26th November at Maxwell Hall, part of Salford University. During the event you will have the opportunity to chat with local ethical designers for styling tips and to browse their collection, chat with furniture organisations to help get your home bang up to date without spending a fortune and of course soak up the period atmosphere of our 1940’s inspired up-cycled fashion show collection. Plus you could win a vintage shopping spree with our free prize draw on the night.
