Salford won't cut 400 nurses, say health bosses
Management bosses at Salford Royal have denied they are to lose 400 nursing posts at the hospital. Following David Cameron's recent visit to Salford Royal, it had been claimed that the Trust - which operates the hospital - planned to cut 400 posts. "This is not true," says David Dalton, Chief Executive at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. “I can confirm that by 31 March 2012 we plan to employ 150 fewer registered nurses than last year but 140 of those have been redeployed to other Trusts as a consequence of the agreed transfer of maternity and neonatal services from this Trust to other hospitals." Mr Dalton added that Salford would be recruiting more nurses in Salford for their new Trauma Centre service. “I can confirm that the number of nurses per bed has improved year on year and a recent Audit Commission review of our qualified nursing ratio per in-patient bed showed that staffing levels are above average for our peer group.” Salford Royal have promised that they will reduce costs through "sensible efficiency improvements" and "without compulsory redundancy".
