Henshaws Society for Blind People to celebrate 175 years with Anniversary Ball
Henshaws Society for Blind People is Manchester’s oldest charity, dating back to 1837 when the original ‘Asylum for the Blind’ was set up in Old Trafford to help blind and visually impaired people lead independent lives, and it is still going strong today. The foundation of the charity is embedded in the generosity of Oldham businessman, Thomas Henshaw who left a legacy of £20,000 (£1.1 million in today's money) in his will to establish an 'Asylum for the Indigent Blind' in Manchester. As 2012 marks 175 years since the charity was started, Henshaws will be celebrating throughout the year with special events, including a heritage exhibition opening in September and an exclusive Anniversary Ball in Manchester, the city where it all began. The Anniversary Ball will take place on Saturday 24th March 2012, at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel, and will feature a fabulous stage show performance from The Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular. For one night only, guests are invited to enjoy an evening of live swing music to help Henshaws celebrate their 175th Birthday. The evening will be hosted by local favourites, BBC’s own Mark Edwardson and Becky Want and will include a champagne reception and three course dinner after which a celebrity compere will host an auction featuring a wide selection of exclusive lots. Tickets are available at just £75 per head, giving people the chance to join us on what promises to be a glorious night of entertainment and celebration. Henshaws also have other packages and sponsorship and advertising opportunities available. For tickets and further information please contact Faye.wilson@henshaws.org.uk or call 0161 786 3693.
