Man charged after Winton bomb scare
A man has been charged after a bomb scare on a Winton estate. At 11.35 am on Saturday 28th January bomb disposal teams ordered that local houses be evacuated and a cordon was erected on Grasmere Crescent. 42-year old Darren Crawley's flat was searched by police after suspicions arose that he had bomb-making equipment. Two suspicious devices were found by police and Crawley was arrested. Police say there was no 'factory' and the two devices were standalone. It is not believed that Crawley had links to extremist groups. The cordon was lifted and neighbours were allowed back into their homes a few hours later. Darren John Crawley (born 26/10/1970) of Grasmere Crescent, Winton has been charged with possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today, Monday 30 January 2012. A 34-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man have been bailed until 30 March 2012 pending further enquiries. Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
