£50k grant for Greengate parks
The residents of Greengate have received a boost after scooping over £50,000 for new community facilities.

The £53,606 funding will address "long-term neglect in Greengate", say Salix Homes.

The package of environmental improvements will include a revamp of the multi-games area with new astroturf and fencing, as well as the creation of new green spaces with shrub and bulb planting.

There will also be an area for the community to hold events and activities.

The funding aims to enable around 2,500 local residents to access the new "24 hour" facilities, within a five minute walking distance from their homes.

Salix Homes' director of customer and neighbourhood services, Sue Sutton said: “This is great news for the Greengate community and the funding is a real credit to Vertical Villages and Bridgewater Residents Group who have worked hard to support the SITA trust bid.

"The funding will support the local community and presents a range of opportunities for the local community to address the long-term neglect and poor facilities experienced by residents within the Greengate area.”

Jools Granville of SITA Trust said: "We are delighted to be able to offer this much needed grant to upgrade community amenities in Salford.’

SITA Trust provides funding through the Landfill Communities Fund. Funding is available for community and environmental groups to carry out a range of improvement projects.
