Salford City College awarded certificate of appreciation for charitable contributions to Pump-Aid.
Salford City College has received a certificate of appreciation from bottled water supplier – Thirsty Planet. The College was rewarded for its contribution to Pump-Aid which is supported by Thirsty Planet, and praised for, its “caring nature and philosophy of doing more to help others whenever possible” by Thirsty Planet Director, Nicky Reeve.

Michaela Booth, Commercial Catering and Retail Manager at Salford City College, is thrilled with the achievement stating “We have worked really hard over the past four years developing our Fair Trade status through supporting worthy causes via the brands we choose to sell across all of the Salford City College centres. I’m very proud that we have been recognised for our efforts and I hope to continue our affiliation with Fair Trade and Ethical brands in the future. Most people will be aware that promoting Fair Trade and Ethical brands is something I am very passionate about, buying a bottle of Thirsty Planet water is a simple way by which our staff and students can contribute to such a worthy cause.”

Thirsty Planet is dedicated to bringing clean water to the most disadvantaged communities across sub Saharan Africa. Every bottle or pack of Thirsty Planet water sold generates a guaranteed, significant, fixed donation to Pump Aid, a fantastic charity which provides cost effective, sustainable clean water solutions across Africa.

Salford City College has supported Thirsty Planet since 2008 and, in that time, have donated in excess of £5000.00 through bottled water sales at all of the College centres, resulting in the purchase and installation of ten water pumps in Malawi, Southern Africa.

In developing countries over a billion people still cannot access clean water. By supporting Thirsty Planet, Salford City College is helping to save and change the lives of millions of African people who are not as fortunate as others.

Gabrielle Lagan, Deputy Principal of Salford City College, praised Michaela for her hard work on this project “Michaela has been the driving force behind the College’s refreshing approach to supporting Ethical brands, this certificate symbolises all of the hard work and dedication she, and her team, have showed over the past four years. During the visit, the Director of Thirsty Planet also commented on how clean and tidy the college looked and also how polite the students were when they visited Pendleton Sixth Form Centre; I’m very proud that we were able to leave such a lasting, positive impression.”

Buy a bottle, change a life!  Doing something truly amazing really doesn’t get any easier.
