Swinton unite for Cameron Cash candlelight vigil

Sunday night saw people from Swinton and beyond turn out for a candlelit tribute to the 14-year-old boy killed on East Lancs Road.

At around 8pm on Sunday evening, hundreds of local people saddened by the events of Saturday gathered on East Lancs Road, near to where the accident occured, to pay tribute to the Moorside High School student.

Cameron Cash was hit by a Vauxhall Vectra while crossing the East Lancs Road near Eccles Road, the Vectra swerved and hit a black Volkswagen Golf immediately following the accident.

The boy was taken to hospital but sadly died from his injuries. Both drivers were treated for minor injuries.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but was later de-arrested after enquiries.

A statement from Cameron’s Mum and Dad said: “He was the light of our lives and leaves Mum, Dad, brother Tom and sister Grace with a gaping hole in our lives."

The Greater Manchester Police are appealing to anyone with information to phone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742.
