Unsigned Salford talent to shine at O2
by Tom Rodgers Local band DRAMA have been chosen for Live and Unsigned 2010, where they'll compete against the most talented bands and artists in the country. Progressive rock band DRAMA battled against hundreds of auditionees to secure a spot in the live shows and now has the opportunity to prove that they are the best in the region. Founding members Ian Gordon and Rob Heyes grew up in Westhoughton, Bolton. In September 2006, Gordon and Heyes formed what would become Drama. Shortly after, Salford-based Alan Taylor was recruited as drummer, with Darwen-based Jason Peacock completing the line-up as bass player in the summer of 2007. Gordon and Heyes ‘grew up on a diet of classic and progressive rock’ and regularly experiment with these genres in an attempt to create their own unique sound. The band cite their influences as Genesis, Rush and Muse. The overall winner of the competition will be offered a recording and management contract with Future Music with an investment of up to £30, 000 to release their single. Drama will now battle it out againt other regional finalists at the Willows, in Salford, on March 7. Drummer Alan Taylor is studying Music at Salford university, and hopes to take the band nationwide with this latest opportunity. Chris Grayston, Events Director of Live & Unsigned explains “This competition really is worlds apart from X Factor and other TV talent contests – we’re all about originality, Live ability and credibility. We don’t accept demos or submissions and everyone auditions live. We’ve got some fantastic prizes up for grabs this year in a £60, 000 prize pool so there’s lot of opportunity for everyone entering and not just the winners – that along with the Festival means 2010 will be the biggest competition yet!” Tickets for the March 7 battle are available on the door or from DRAMA directly on 07963090667.
