Matthew Hamilton gives Salford Choral new direction
Salford Choral Society, one of the leading choirs in the North West with members from all over Greater Manchester, has appointed Matthew Hamilton as their new Music Director. Matthew will take up his position on 1 September, when the choir begins rehearsals for Haydn’s Creation. Despite the relatively young age of 26, Matthew is already Music Director of Reading Bach Choir and the Royal School of Church Music Voices. For two years he was Musical Director of Ad Solem, The University of Manchester Chamber Choir, with whom he made national television and radio broadcasts for the BBC. He has worked as Chorus Master for Rambert Dance Company, and has assisted with choirs throughout the UK, including the BBC Symphony Chorus and the National Youth Choir. Matthew also works as an animateur, leading singing workshops in primary and secondary schools as part of the Sing Up! initiative. Chris Limb, Chairman of Salford Choral Society, says, ‘ We are very excited by the prospect of working with Matthew, who has already made a great impression on the choir.
