Video: Salford Music Festival - the latest
by Tony Flynn

We caught up with Ed Blaney the organiser of The Salford Music Festival where he gave us the latest news on the event.

Originally the plan was for the festival to be in Buile Hill park following the Salford Proms in the Park.

However an estimated cost of £270,000 plus the fact that one of the main sponsors pulled out put an end to that plan.

The so-called fringe events will take place in pubs scattered throughout Salford including, The Kings Arms, Weaste Hotel, The Crescent, The White Horse, The Town Hall, Eccles and The Plough, Cadishead.

Over sixty bands will be playing throughout the three days of the 9th - 12th September, just to name a few are, The Planets, Death To The Strange, The Kinetic, Hanky Park, Pearl Divers, Dark Angel, Monkeys in Love, and a host more.

On the Sunday evening the 12th the big event will be Manchester meets Salford Mainstage at The Ritz ballroom, Whitworth Street, where the main attractions will be The Fall, The Salford Jets, Girl Peculiar, Lowline, AAAK, Trigger Happy, Dave Sharp and 1913.

If that is not enough for you there will be DJ sets from Terry Christian, Clint Boon and Dermo from Northside.

Tickets cost £15 and will gain you admittance to any of the above events.

So it's hats off to Ed for pulling of this event despite all the obstacles he has had to overcome to bring this to fruition.

One Team, One Dream, stop the bickering true sons and daughters of Salford, and get behind any Salfordian who chooses to get out off this s*** hole via music or for that matter any God given talent except slagging and bullying other Salfordians. Yours Rev Whicher.

MUSIC IS THE TRUE WORLD LANGUAGE! MUSICIANS SHOULD PLAY TOGETHER AS A TEAM FOR PEOPLES PLEASURE ALONE! THIS IS NOT FOOTBALL!!! ALL THE PASSION IS BEING TURNED INTO VENOM HERE! WORK TOGETHER AND MAKE MUSIC WITHOUT BITTERNESS OR JEALOUS RIVALRY! PLAY WITH THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS MENTALITY YOU COULD WIN OR LOSE! PLAY TO PLEASE AND YOU CAN ONLY WIN!!..... (J SALMON)

The inflictors are average, good musicians, there are many great bands in Salford and Eccles

You all sound really pathetic and you are embarrasing Salford. At least it was a start in the right direction. Blainey is no idiot, he has gutts and balls and a record deal. How many of you have one? Hanky park rocked the ritz and shinny does a lot for charity. So shut up and grow up. Barry . Irlam

Mr herring did not want to play. Mistake on his part.

The inflictors haha the singer is good and the drummer is from Salford, joey salmon legend, he also has worked with blainey, you are just gutted that Ed pulled it off in the real way and most of the other bands you mention on here did not ask to play, Simon and Bryan from the inflictors are idiots and will never do anything other than smoke and drink. This is Salford . Not Eccles . The townhall took part and had a great turn out. Wangies is a good pub and so are the others mentioned on here they all put on good gigs and pay the bands. The kings arms fig was great. Monkeys in love were ace. Rick. Salford born and bred.

Uncle Rotter are amazing, really refreshing and energetic. Went watching them at Oddies. Their show was fantastic. Everyone on their feet, dancing and singing along.

This was a fiasco not a festival. Edache Blainey promised so much and delivered very little. Even the Fall gig was marred by a really bad PA system. Also the Salford Gets were not worthy of being on the same stage as the Fall. The Inflictors are the best live band in Salford by a mile. I saw them and they are real kick ass stuff.

The Inflictors were stunning on thursday night at Kings Arms, and having to go on following the idiot Ed Blaney who proceeded to abuse the crowd and throw a table and also a punch at members of the audience, because Girl Peculiar's set was cut short for one song and he wasn't even on the stage. This left a very bitter taste in my mouth which thankfully, was overcome by the brilliant Inflictors, who stole the show and the night. At least Salford still has some talent to offer.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Guest  8th September 2010
No Black Knights, Sandbox, Shanty Town, Riff Raff, Kingfishers Catch Fire, yet still space for Sweeney and the dreadful Salford Jets, yeah right.

The Cloths would be like a breath of fresh air at the concert.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Guest  3rd September 2010
What! no Touching Cloth!!!.How dare you call it "Salford" without a Gig from the boys, I know that they would drop everything and come back from Hamburgh tomorrow,or is it that certain so called Muscians are scared that the cloths would blow them off stage,
