Marathon for Salford bands, choirs, singers
A not-for-profit arts organisation is searching for Salford bands, choirs and music groups to take part in the London 2012 Olympics closing event. The Bandstand Marathon will take place on Sunday 9th September 2012. Salford not only has the honour of being at the start of London 2012 celebrations by being included in the route for the Olympic torch but also has the opportunity to become part of the biggest closing event too! Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, says: “The Bandstand Marathon is a great opportunity to come together with a real sense of community to celebrate the best of your local area”. Superact are the organisation behind the drive to find Salford music talent, and are aiming for 500 locations across UK hosting simultaneous performances as part of the Cultural Olympiad. Bandstand Marathon has been running successfully since 2008 and next year will be the biggest yet with even more opportunities for local musicians to showcase their talents. Katharine Lane, Superact’s Associate Director, explains: “This really is a unique opportunity for musicians in Salford to be part of a major national music event and create a musical legacy post London 2012.” She continues “Superact can offer bands a fee to take part plus loads of support with planning and publicity – all of which is invaluable for them in the future”.
