Video: Historic Victoria R launches at Trafford museum
by Tom Rodgers

The 130-year old gentleman's launch the Victoria R got its first showing at the newly-opened Museum of Museums.

Originally named Glenrosa, this steel-hulled beauty was built in the 1880s as a coal-fired vessel but "Barnacle" Phil Austin restored and reinvented it as an electrically-powered slice of Victoriana.

It was named Victoria R in honour of Queen Victoria, who famous took a barge journey down the Bridgewater Canal in 1851 as a guest of the Duke of Bridgewater

Hauled from its moorings outside the Monton Lighthouse, the Victoria R will be part of the enormous Museum of Museums' opening exhibition until September 2011.

Well done Tom and SoL, have seen your coverage of the grand opening ceremony of the Museum of Museums including the Totem Pole and Victoria R... Plus Tony Flynn's coverage of the massive anti-incinerator demonstration in Monton last Saturday...good local stuff. It struck me, where were the 'Big Guns' of our local media? (Manchester Evening News, and Northwest tonight?). Seems like SoL 'Scooped' these significant local events. Keep up the good work.Seadog
