Video: Secret Eccles Fritters finally unveiled
by Tony Flynn

Whittakers Fish and Grill chip shop on Church street, Eccles, long famous for its fish has now unveiled its latest culinary delight, The Eccles Fritter!

As part of Salford Council's initiative scheme to promote shopping in Eccles this week, Linda Whittaker was approached to create a new culinary delicacy.

So, with a new secret recipe using a light dessert batter with cinnamon, lightly fried, voila! The Eccles Fritter.

I handed several out to passerbys on Church Street and the verdict was unanimous, delicious!

How apt that the Eccles Fritter will be launched on Church Street, yards away from the home of the original Eccles cake made famous by James Birch in 1796.

Now you too can get your hands on one of Eccles latest delicacies. Simply pop into Whittakers between the hours of 11am - 3pm and claim your free fritter, as easy as that.

Not having a sweet tooth I would recommend the fish and mushy peas myself, but this is a special event so enjoy yourself!

Expensive haircut? You must be jesting, surely, I cut my hair myself! Community journalism is not fastest way to make a million...

Is there no limit to Tom Rodgers' talent...did you see the way he bit into that Eccles Fritter? Masterful! Russel Crowe had better watch out.

If the Fritters are half as good as the fish we are in for a treat, best chippy in Eccles with great staff.

I know that the chippy is great and famous for its fish, so I look forward to getting my Eccles Fritter tomorrow, the people on Church Street all seemed to be enjoying it so count me in.

I had an excellant lunch there on my last visit. What a lovely lady Linda is. Can't wait to sample an Eccles Friter. Going to have to wait a while though. Cheers Tony. Another gem.
