Valentine Cup Final result
By: Jason Whitty

1st division Folly Lane from Swinton played newly promoted Irlam Hornets, Champions of Division 4 of the North West Counties League in a thrilling final of the Valentines Cup at Salford City Reds ground the Willows.

Irlam took the lead through Drench from a penalty; they then scored a try which was scored by Lee Sailsbury after some great work from John Brookes.

Drench converted and then added another penalty to give Hornets a 10-0 lead at half time.

After the break Irlam's lack of fitness (or the fitter Folly players) showed up the Hornets.

Folly ran in three tries: one from Jamieson and two from Murray with Carew getting 3 goals.

That brought the score to 18-10.

Murray was man of match from Folly Lane with John Brookes of Irlam Hornets coming a very close second.

The game was a credit to the two top teams in Salford.
