Salford City enter the FA Cup
Salford City face a tough challenge when Chorley visit Moor Lane for this FA Cup Preliminary Round tie.

Magpies manager Gary Flitcroft has rebuilt Chorley’s playing squad over the summer, recruiting heavily from previous club Leigh as well as from elsewhere.

That recruitment drive has paid instant dividends too, with a 6-0 opening day win at home to Woodley Sports being followed by an even more impressive 6-2 triumph at Curzon Ashton on Monday evening.

Those results underline the club’s ambitions, and even at this early stage of the season they must rank as one of the favourites for promotion.

Things were a little different the last time Chorley visited Moor Lane, as recently as April 15th.

Salford came our on top that day by 3-0 to extend their winning run to six games, but none of the players who represented the visitors that evening played any part in their opening games of this campaign. Goals from Steve Foster, Lee Neville and Rhodri Giggs gave the Ammies their comfortable win and their team that night looked like this…

1) Andy Robertson 2) Darren Hockenhull 3) Alex Mortimer 4) Matt Cross 5) Billy McCartney 6) Gareth Thomas 7) Stuart Tulloch 8) Martyn Andrews 9) Rhodri Giggs 10) Steve Foster 11) Lee Neville

In contrast to the changes at Chorley, all but one of those players could take part in Saturday’s match with only Lee Neville deciding to move on during the summer.

Should Saturday's game end in a draw, the replay will be held at the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium on Tuesday August 31st (kick off 7:45pm). In that event (or if Clitheroe need a replay) Bank Holiday Monday's home league game versus Clitheroe will be postponed.
