North Walkden entertained Chadderton on Saturday hell bent on staying top of the Lancashire Amateur League with half the season gone and a couple of players suspended.

The visitors kept up a frantic pace only to go a goal behind when Karl Payne's inswinging corner was headed home by Alan Litherland who rose above the defenders to give the keeper no chance with a bullet header.

The home team were playing some exquisite football at a high tempo and went further ahead when man of the match Reece Charlton took a Lewis Barlow through ball in his stride and smahed his shot from the edge of the box past the keeper.

Walkden went 3-0 up just before half time when Paul Fitton played in Arron Monks to go round the keeper.

The visitors got a goal back when the striker hit a shot in off the post. Matt Jackson then pulled off a superb save going full length to push a shot round the post.

Walkden increased the lead when Aiden Heaton's clearance found Reece Charlton who left the defence for dead and curled his shot past the advancing keeper.

Karl Payne completed the scoring when he lobbed the keeper from a through ball off Ben Giverin
