Swinton will 'up intensity' against Raiders
by Chris Brierley
Chaz I’Anson reckons Swinton need to increase their intensity levels against Barrow in Cumbria on Sunday (2pm). The Lions’ new signing from Widnes made his debut against his old club nine days ago and was impressed by the quality in the dressing room. Now he wants to improve on that performance as Swinton prepare for their first game in the Northern Rail Cup at York City Knights on February 12. “I was really proud of all the boys against Widnes,” he said. “It was a good performance for our first hit-out. “We did a lot of defending in the first half and that’s why we leaked those late tries in the second-half. “But it has given us something to work on. We have a game this weekend against Barrow and we hope to raise our levels again. “We need to increase the intensity and skill level and hopefully get better as the season starts.” Swinton have one more friendly after the Barrow game, against Warrington under 20s at the Halliwell Jones on January 29. Former Hull KR pivot I’Anson is one of five new faces in the Lions squad which also include Tom Armstrong, Adam Higson, David Mills and Kevin Penny “They are a great set of lads and all the new boys have been made welcome,” he said. “Steve is a good coach and everyone is buying in to his ethos. We are all kicking on and looking forward to a good season.” Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
