AFC Monton 0 Manchester Gregorians 2
Match reporter: Trevor Dutt
Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division Saturday 28.1.2012 AFC Monton entertained last seasons Manchester League Premier Division Champions and finished empty handed following an indifferent performance. The visitors opened very sharp with good pressure and controlled passing right from the whistle and this seemed to put Monton on their heels, never allowing them time or space to play. Gregorians claimed their reward for their efforts with a goal after just ten minutes then followed it up with another midway through the first half. Monton were clearly shaken by their opponents fitness and quality and actually defended well to keep the score at a respectable level to the half time break. The second half however saw Monton return to the form shown in recent games as they pinned the visitors into their own half and applied good pressure and shape and started to create better goal scoring opportunities. Rob Whatmough was unlucky to see his effort go inches wide of goal as he broke through the Gregorians well marshalled defence and Scott Weir also saw his goal bound strike whistle past the far post with the visitors keeper beaten. Certainly a game of two halves, and Monton produced the better football in the second, but unfortunately could not find the vital goals to rescue at least a point from a very difficult fixture. Lessons to be learnt all round as AFC Monton travel to third placed Walshaw FC next Saturday for another League fixture. Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
