Wythenshawe Town 1 Fives Athletic 0
Match reporter: John Cootes
Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Division One Third-placed Fives Athletic expected a tough game at Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League division one leaders Wythenshawe Town and were not disappointed. The hosts had the better of a goaless first half as they dominated midfield but could not find a way past Fives' keeper Kyle Mosley who was in great form. The second half was more even as Fives began to get a grip but just as the visitors were stepping up their game they fell behind on the hour mark and ironically it was due to an error by man-of -the-match 'keeper Mosley who dropped the ball as he was challenged following a corner and Benson scored with a simple tap-in to give Wythenshawe the lead. Fives thought the 'keeper had been fouled but the referee waived away their appeals. However, despite this setback, the momentum was still with the visitors and Fives began to dominate posession but found it difficult to carve out any real chances against a well-drilled Wythenshawe defence. Substitute Josh Smith came closest for Fives on 80 minutes when his swerving 20 yard free-kick beat the home 'keeper but hit the side netting. It was not enough to stop the leaders from taking all three points and cement their place at the top as Fives dropped out of the top three positions for the first time this season.
