by Emma Davis We decided to take a trip down to the Lowry Outlet Mall to see if the Salford Totem Pole was still making waves amongst visitors and Salford residents.
In a happy co-incidence we managed to meet the lady who owned The Woodman pub opposite the Manchester Liners office where the Salford Totem Pole originally stood.

You sound a right bitter pr*ck, what is wrong with alerting people to a part of Salford's history. Cllr Coen is not in this for fame/attention etc. Hang your head in shame. |

Seems like the totem pole is Cllr Coens pet project-it was retired years ago, why resurrect it-Ive never heard of anyone except Cllr Coen expressing a desire to re instate it. Cllr Coen alone (not a "friends of the totem pole" group) has already applied to the Salford Community Committees for public funding to assist the restoration & future associated travel costs. He should have asked the shops around the Lowry to fund the restoration, it will I assume be placed on public land-whowill be reponsible for its erection, insurance & future maintenance-the taxpayer? |

Been back to look at the statues and have changed my mind, I quite like them to be honest, in fact I have done a short video piece on them. Time must have mellowed me..... |

Kevin Cranmer has found the suitable CEDAR wood in Victoria, B.C, for the sections that need repairs, this will be getting shipped over in the next several weeks. We are currently preparing the signage displays and information sheets and video to play at the Mall unit.

Carol sorry to be a spoilsport but the Woodman pub was on Broad Street directly facing Salford Technical College as you quite rightly say, but that was not the Salford Totem Pole, they were three huge concrete abstract pieces of art, still in situ, and still as ugly.
The Totem Pole was on Trafford Road and I should imagine the nearest pub facing it would have been The Salisbury, long demolished along with many other fine pubs in that area. |
