I've just posted a comment about the Totem Pole guided walk on 28 Dec. If anyone has any interesting stories or memories about the Totem Pole or the Sioux that we might include in the walk, please get in touch with me at pauline.lloyd261@btinternet.com. We'd love to hear from you!

Comment by Pauline Lloyd Well done, SalfordOnline! Great to get Harold Riley on board. Date for everyone's diary - Monday 28 December at 2pm. Meet at the Blue Cranes on The Quays for a special guided walk, with costumed local professional tourist guides, to support the Totem Pole Campaign. Hear more about the Totem Pole and about the Sioux who camped by the Irwell in the 1880s. More information from Pauline Lloyd pauline.lloyd261@btinternet.com

If you would like to put together a display about the totem pole and its restoration I would be very happy to arrange for it to go on show in Eccles Gallery. Karen Illingworth, Eccles Community Art gallery, Boothway, Eccles

As usual I can only get the first 30 secconds of video. But is was enough. Fascinating to see and hear Harold Riley again after half a century. You see, MISTER Riley was my class teacher at Patricroft Parish School all those years ago. I guess I was about 8 or 10. I remember him as a scarf wearing Lambretta (or Vespa) riding somewhat radical young man for the time. I belive I still have a class photograph somewhere. Ahhh, happy days.

In all my time in Salford I've never seen Harold Riley speak before! I have to say, I thought he was dead (sorry Harold)! Great that he's behind this campaign though.
