by Tony Flynn and Tom Rodgers For followers of SalfordOnline's Totem Pole campaign, Kevin Cranmer will be a familiar figure, which is why we're delighted to present the first in a two-part interview with the master-restorer (and not-so-secret Man Utd fan).
His uncle Doug Cranmer carved the Salford Totem Pole when it was commissioned in the 1960s, now Kevin has made the trip from British Columbia to Salford, to look at restoring this fine emblem of trading links between our two nations.
Kevin explains the meaning of the four figureheads on the totem, including the magnificent thunderbird, the killer whale and the raven.
The discussion and heated debate that's ringing around the SalfordOnline office at the moment is whether to see this wonderful piece of history erected inside, so it can be protected, or outside, so the maximum number of people can see and experience the effect of the Totem Pole. Your input is gladly receieved, as there are compelling arguments for both!
Watch out for the SalfordOnline poll coming soon

Kevin, on behalf of Tom, Brian, Emma, and myself can we say that the privilege of meeting you was all ours. I am so glad that you enjoyed the warmth and hospitality extended to by the good people of Salford. We are really looking forward to seeing you again in the New Year and your work in restoring the totem pole back to it's former glory, also glad that you managed to see Manchester United, one win out of two isn't that bad!
So have a great Christmas and an equally good New Year, regards to you and all your family and friends from everybody at SalfordOnline. |

It needs to be outside of course. It would be like keeping a wild thing caged indoors to do otherwise! |

What a really nice man Kevin Cranmer appears to be, he should be applauded for the good work he is doing in Salford, also a marvellous insight into the Canadian Indian culture. Really looking forward to seeing this project progress. |

Wow! This is excellent work, this is a really exciting story and your quality of interview is actually better than you would see on TV.
