The most powerful chairman of the most influential business in Salford talks to SalfordOnline about the prospects for the Salford Totem Pole.

With master-restorer Kevin Cranmer now safely back on the shores of Canada, work is continuing apace to get the 36 ft Columbian cedar monument ready for his return.

The next job is to take five coats of paint off the wooden surface. But cedar is a delicate wood, and so it requires precision equipment to do so. But astonishingly, there's a Salford company not 500 yards from where the Totem Pole sits that owns and operates the necessary machinery.

So fine is this equipment that it can take the print off newspaper. But more on that to come....
