Swinton cashier threatened with crowbar
Police are appealing for information after a cashier at a petrol station in Swinton was threatened with a crowbar.

Around 5.25pm on Wednesday 23 December 2009, a man wearing a black balaclava walked into Maljee petrol station on Chorley Road, Swinton.

He pulled out a crowbar and hit the top of the till so the cashier handed over a small amount of cash.

The man shouted 'where is the big money' then walked over to a second cashier and hit him on the back with the crowbar.

The second cashier handed over more cash in a bag and the man left.

He got back into the small white van he arrived in and drove off.

The man was described as 5ft 5ins tall, wearing dark clothing, balaclava and gloves.

A similar white van with registration number YK02 NF0 was seen a short time later on Cheetham Street, Swinton carrying two men.

The men had an altercation with a woman in a dark car about her manner of parking, before getting out of the van and walking off. A man walking nearby witnessed this.

Detective Constable Horace Bell of Swinton Robbery Unit said: "We need to find the person who committed this robbery so I would appeal to anyone who may have information to get in touch.

"The van seen on Cheetham Street was very similar to the one used in the robbery so if the woman who the men argued with is reading this, the man walking close by or even one of the men in the van, then please contact us."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5260 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
