Statement from GMP about officers meeting with the family of Anuj Bidve
Assistant Chief Constable Dawn Copley, who has overall command for the operation, said: “Two GMP officers have now arrived in India to support the family of Anuj Bidve in person.

"We felt it was important to make personal contact with the family and offer them every support we could at this difficult time.

"We need to explain to them in person where we are up to in the investigation and what we are doing to ensure Anuj's body is released to them as soon as possible.

"Having this conversation face-to-face is absolutely the right thing to do."

Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson, one of the officers in India said: "We would ask the family are allowed some space, to ensure their discussion with us takes place in private and that their concerns can be raised and addressed."

ACC Copley continued: "We know the family are extremely distressed that Anuj has not yet been returned to them. We have been in close contact with the coroner, who is anxious to release Anuj to his family at the earliest possible time.

"This remains a complex investigation and the fact we have charged someone does not mean the investigation is complete."

As criminal proceedings in the UK are now underway, it would be inappropriate to comment further.
