Woman mugged walking home from work - Ordsall
A man in a high visibility jacket mugged a woman walking home from work on a main road in Salford during the rush hour.

At about 6pm on Wednesday 18 January 2012, the 23-year-old woman was walking along Ordsall Lane when she noticed a man walk past her from behind.

The man then turned around, walked past her from in front and then turned and threatened her from behind.

He pulled out a six inch knife and demanded her handbag, which the woman gave up immediately.

The offender ran away towards Ordsall Hall.

He is described as being a white man in his early 30s, of very slim build and about 6ft tall. He had a slim face, was unshaven with long fair facial stubble and was wearing a yellow hi-visibilty vest and a dark Hooded Top.

The woman was not injured, but left badly shaken up.

Superintendent Wayne Miller said: “The offender committed this robbery during rush hour on a main commuter road, and not only was he wearing a high visibility jacket, he was also extremely close to being caught red handed by police officers patrolling the area.

“Officers came to the assistance of this lady very quickly and trained detectives have been working with her and offering support."

“In consultation with the community and Salford City Council the police have increased uniform patrols both on the estate and in the immediate vicinity; I am sure this has been very apparent to local residents."

“This man clearly needs to be caught, there will have been many people on their way home from work at that time who may have seen the man described and we would urge any witnesses, or anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem to contact us."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5186 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
