Pensioner pushed down stairs after confronting intruder
A pensioner was thrown down some stairs after confronting an intruder in his home in Salford.

Shortly before 7pm on Friday 20 January 2012, a 68-year-old man was at his flat on Eccles Old Road, Hope, when he spotted his cat run out of his bedroom.

He went to investigate and the offender, who was hiding behind his bedroom door, ran out towards the stairs.

The victim chased after the intruder and following a struggle was pushed down the last five stairs.

He did not suffer any serious injuries.

The offender escaped out of a first floor window and is described as white, in his early 20s, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in tall, of slim build and wearing dark clothing and a black baseball cap.

Police Constable Darren Lowe, of the Volume Crime Team, said: “This cowardly intruder was skulking around the victim’s home and when confronted pushed him down some stairs.

“Thankfully he was not seriously injured but clearly the consequences could have been far worse.

“If anyone was in the area or recognises the description of the offender please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Volume Crime Team on 0161 856 5353, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
