Well Mr Yates, plenty of time to do other things again, turning Liz Hills majority of 7 in to a loss of over 1000, your negative campaign and lack of any knowledge of the area was shocking. Cllr Brammer-Kelly will be gone next time if her campaign is as poor

I am appaled at the lack of interaction on this forum with our standing councillors, as they have previously been happy to respond to other members of the public. Im sorry but you have lost my vote

"So should you have the desire and ambition to work hard for your community" - So by being a scouser, how is Ordsall ward your local community Mr Herron? Are you a resident in this ward? Or was it the only available ward at the time of your application? What exactly are you bringing to this community? A question you have so far, avoided to answer

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Marvin Herron  26th April 2011
Worried Onlooker. Any member of the public can join their local party or stand for themselves should they wish to pursue becoming a councillor (providing they meet certain criteria). So should you have the desire and ambition to work hard for your community and don't mind working the extra hours in the evening then I would strongly suggest you look into it. If you are interested in becoming a candidate for the Conservative party then please go to www.salfordconservatives.com and click on the join us link for further information. Many thanks.

Any more news on the Scouser? Has he outlined what HE brings along with his party to the process? What's the backgound>? i mean can i just go and apply to become a councillor.

@ Jimmy unfortunately Cllr Ainsworth is far from 'independence'. He was elected as a Lib Dem and was (apparently) hoping to re-stand this year as a Labour candidate but wasn't selected.

Monty I thought exactly the same. These suffragettes should have kept their mouths shut. But if you want some cold water throwing over you, have a look at Labours growler for Barton. WOOF!

Lab candidate for Eccles looks quite fit, couldn't vote for her as long as my butt points down but she is fit none the less

Boothstown is a separate ward, already a labour candidate standing.

Boothstown & Ellenbrook. Cllr Robin Garrido.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by R.R.  20th April 2011
Isn't Boothstown and Worsley the same place? there does not seem to be a ward called Boothstown only Worsley.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by as  20th April 2011
Had a leaflet pushed through the door for Gina Merrett, Labour candidate for Worsley. The headline is that unlike other Worsley candidates she live in Worlsey and has done for 50 years. However, on the voting slips, she appears to be the only one of the candidates who does not live in the ward, she lves in Boothstown all the others do live in the Worlsey ward. What a strange clam to make then.

don't want to shatter everyone's illusions, but have you thought that maybe Martins friends wouldn't know where Salford is? And he didn't mention the Queen, little fluffy animals or even whether or not he likes Eurovision. So are we to jump to assumptions that because he didn't mention it,s he doesn't like it?

Nice work J, join Monty in the good books of all REAL Salford people. Here's a snippet from the article you found for all to see, especialy the paople of Ordsall........ Marvin said: "I get a lot of grief from my friends in Liverpool for living in Manchester. I love Manchester, especially the nightlife, but it will never replace home." No mention of SALFORD then Marvin?

I`m trying to track down A councillor, anyone will do! to beable to speak to in person or by mail, if they are shy, I need a question answering on local school placements (sorry non local placements) before the 5th of May. So if anyone sees one ( councillor that is ) or even knows where they are all hiding? until the 5th of May. Could you be so kind as to ask Why have local children been given school placements in other towns and non catholic children have placements in catholic schools? and vise-verse. I`m confused. com.

It says Eccles in the small print on the back of his leaflet when he's standing in Worsley. Its just because he stud in the General election in Worlsey and Eccles south. Easy mistake to make really. We all make mistakes. Athough when I asked Chris Clarkson if he had ever made a mistake he ran away!

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by as  18th April 2011
So what was Andrew Townsend's small mistake?

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Monty  18th April 2011
I wouldn't vote for any of would be councilors making the petty, sniping comments here. Your behaviour on this public forum demonstrates all that is wrong with local politics, GROW UP and win over your electorate with well thought out, reasoned rhetoric!

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Paul Woodburn  17th April 2011
Chris, If all you have to go on is a small spelling mistake then you are weak, Your showing that there is nothing on policy that you can argue against. You say attention to detail is not my strong point and yet your still calling me Andrew! Even here where it says my name in Bold letters! Anyway this is getting childish. If you are a typical Tory candidate then they must be desperate.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Chris Clarkson  16th April 2011
...quite a different recollection to mine, Andrew. I remember you saying you'd cut and paste your leaflet. I remember you saying it did dent matter that you'd got the ward wrong, because no one would read it... PS: Robin's not my dad. Attention to detail clearly not a strong point for you.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Paul Woodburn  16th April 2011
Today I met Chris Clarkson (Conservative candidate for Worsley) He doesn't talk. He let this man (who I assume was his father) do all the talking. Chris's father told Andrew Townsend that he wasn't fit to be candidate because of a small mistake. Who is he to say? I asked Chris if he had ever made a mistake. Chris avoided the question by running away. Is Chris a typical Tory candidate?

As far as im aware you dont need a polling card. If you would feel better taking a passport or a picture driving licence, that wouldnt be a problem.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Lovely  16th April 2011
I was wondering if it is possible to vote without my electoral card. I have received my electoral card but my name was written wrongly. When I phoned The Electoral Commission, I was told to send that card to them so another one will be issued perfectly. Yesterday on 15th April, I received a leaflet with the name written wrongly instead of the electoral card with the correct nam. May I only use my passport on 5th May? Please let me know on time. Thank you very much!

Oh no, Marvin is an LFC supporting SCOUSER! A few more internet quotes like this one on the BBC in reference to the Ashes victory parade pics ""marvin herron said, not as good as the champions of europe home coming in Liverpool" and a twitter reference " Liverpool 4u (Liverpool4u) is on Twitter. Sign up for Twitter to follow Liverpool 4u ... Fiza Hamzah · Lehlohonolo Mofokeng · sweet of anis · Marvin Herron ..." What is Salford coming to and Ordsall being in spitting distance of the Theatre Of Dreams!

Update and the question is, Marvin are you a scouser???? August 18, 2006 @ 8:21 pm "marvin herron said, hey phil, yeah i did too, on the second floor 20? hope the people who be livin their mix a bit and aint up themselves. be cool to just mix a bit with the residents. im traveling to manchester from liverpool everyday to work and seriously it takes over an hour each way at the minimum, now its just a 7 minute drive (im sad, ive already timed the run). have you seen it of late, its shocking how fast they are going up. im going to the open day on sep 17th are you goin?"

Can't find out much about Marvin but he appears to like city centre living from this blog entry about Abito....June 28, 2006 @ 12:16 pm "Marvin Herron said, Im lucky enough to have purchased one of these babies. me and me girlfreind are due to be moving in in the new year. They are small yes, but what else can you get at this price. Lots of good features, smart balcony and super fiitings with video entrance intercom, remote control lighting and heating, siemans technology appliences with a stunning view of the city centre looking toward the printworks , harvey nicholls and selfridges. If any one else have got one of these beauties then get in touch." Marv is perhaps an upwardly mobile local Tory toff?

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Woody Ron  14th April 2011
I remember in student elections you could "Vote for Ron", and Ron always seemed to get the most votes. Ron, of course, is Re-Open Nominations. I think if you did that round here we'd never end up with a council at all, and someone's got to eat the biscuits...

There should be a box to tick that says "NONE of the above" and it should count.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Myopic Monty  14th April 2011
@ Jimmy... Yes he is and I also missed an independant candidate for Barton, still only two from some 94 or so candidates. The voting list doesn't give us direct ability to oust Merry and his men from the positions of power still, grrrr!!!

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Silent majority  14th April 2011
To the worried onlooker Marvin Herron is as committed to Ordsall as Gena Merrett is to Worsley. Fact is all parties know they have good and bad areas for votes. But at least they are putting a candidate forward for all the wards rather than just their 'good areas.' Look at last years Irwell Riverside (I think) The Conservative candidate polled more than the BNP. Without a Conservative candidate how much more validated would the BNP feel?

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by as  14th April 2011
Worried Onlooker - Remember that Ordsall area also includes Salford Quays (or whatever its being called now). It is no longer the Ordsall it was 30 or 40 years ago, the demographics are completely different, and although the conservatives may not take it, it is not the Labour stronghold it once was.

What's the problem about being Local the Swinton South Candidate for Labour is like a Gipsy-Walkden North dumped-Barton-dumped and he turns up here,Labour stick people any where.Same for the residents of claremont. TALK ABOUT TAKING US FOR A RIDE.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Antony Yates  14th April 2011
I do apologise for not replying within hours of this story being posted and commented on, but some of us have other commitments. But the main reason for my delay is it is taking so long to compile the list of sitting Labour Councillors who don't live in their ward. But in answer to other comments, yes it is correct I stood as the candidate for Barton last year, against a Labour Councillor who resided in Ellesmere Park. The party would have loved to find a party member who lived in the ward but none came forward. Unlike the Labour party, we choose on merit and not through positive discrimination, and after the interview process I was chosen as the best candidate. As for thwarted Liberals, with so few people, it's not worth mentioning.

I received a leaflet this morning from the Conservative candidate for Cadishead, Anthony Yates. The leaflet stresses that Anthony is the local choice for Cadishead, but tells me nothing him. Is he really local, does he reside in Cadishead, I would love to know something about the person that is asking for my vote. I believe that Anthony stood in The Barton Ward at the last election, as the local candidate, I presume.

OK, we've now been able to get in touch with everyone apart from the Conservatives! We're trying to be as politically neutral as possible here, giving everyone the chance to introduce themselves to the community before they go to the ballot box in May. Does anyone know of a general email to salford conservatives?

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Paul Woodburn  11th April 2011
Mark, The UKIP Salford branch is fairly new and very big considering. I am partially responsible for setting up this branch. I have lived in Salford all my life and for many years I said "whats the point? They're all the same" I hear people saying that today. But surely its time for change. Real change! I believe the UK independence party can provide it. Why? Because all of our candidates live and work in the wards they are standing in. They see the problems that need resolving in their local community every day. The cuts effecting aspirations of local people, poorly maintained roads and very little protection of the vulnerable. This cannot be right. If you agree with me then vote for the UK independence party on may the 5th.

Not so long ago I remember reading in the press that Cllr Potter and Cllr Murphy had been removed (deserlected)in the wards they were in. Now I see they have been given other wards to stand in. I lived on the Duchy estate when it was in Claremont, before it was moved too Irwell-Riverside, Murphy lived not that far from me and my family and did nothing to help the residents where he lived. There were gangs wandering the estate and he sat back and said nothing. He left the estate and moved up on the Heights somewhere. I heard he was removed from Irwell because he was just as useless there. Why is it allowed to happen. Potter has also been removed form wards before now. Can't Labour find candidates that will work. I just hope the people in Swinton South and Claremont use their vote well and get a person who will stand up for them, because these 2 won't. My mum and dad still live on Duchy and they never see him or the one who is always in the paper over a totampole. They don't hold advise sregery's and are hard to get on the phone. Before I get told they can be emailed my parents are in their late 70's and would like to talk to their councillors.

Kevin P - Ypur post contradicts itself. People have as much right not to vote , and baely half the electorate can be bothered in local elections. However to say everyone should be forced to vote by law then goes against any democratic process I know of.

Report as offensive or innapropriate Comment by Kevin_P  6th April 2011
As this is a LOCAL election, please allow me to re-word Mr. Spiby's comments to:- "PLEASE don't vote for Any PARTY, but instead vote for the Individual CANDIDATE who's ideas and solutions best represent your own, totally regardless of yours and their political inclination!", and: "Ideally everyone should be forced to vote by law, as this strengthens British Democracy!". To me that's the only way we'll get anywhere near to having a Council that represents the majority of the people of Salford, because at the moment the present one very clearly doesn't! (PS - 'see you at the polling station Albert :) ).
