Salford Southern Cross care home latest
Salford Council have sent in the following press release detailing their latest news on the failing care home provider Southern Cross. There has been significant media coverage about Southern Cross, which Salford City Council recognises can potentially cause concern for residents and their families. Our number one priority is the welfare of Southern Cross residents in the city, and our efforts are focussed on making sure that residents are looked after well. We have been working closely with Southern Cross and our partners, such as NHS Salford and other Greater Manchester councils, to ensure that we have adequate contingency plans in place for all residents. This includes a timetable for looking with each individual at what their current needs are, as part of our normal review process. Our preferred option continues to be to ensure that all residents stay in the homes where they currently are. This would involve working with the various landlords of the seven Salford homes as it becomes clearer what arrangements are being made to transfer the operation of those homes from Southern Cross, we can then commission these other organisations to deliver the care in place of Southern Cross, meaning people should be able to stay where they are. If this proves unfeasible then we will work with families to find suitable alternative accommodation. We would stress, though, that this would very much be a last resort and our primary objective would be for residents to stay where they are. We appreciate that these are uncertain times for families of Southern Cross residents and, at the moment, we simply do not know what the future of the seven homes are but we wanted to reassure families that we do have plans in place to ensure that their loved ones are - and will continue to be - looked after.
