Eccles by-election called
A by-election has been called to find a new councillor for Salford’s Eccles ward.

This follows the sad death of Councillor John Cullen earlier this month.

The election will be held on Thursday 20 October 2011, with the count held at Salford Town Hall from 10.00pm.

Eccles' current councillors are Lisa Stone (Labour) and Judith Tope (Conservative).

Nominations for candidates must be submitted by 12.00 noon on Friday 23 September 2011.

Barbara Spicer, Returning Officer for Salford City Council, said: “The by-election has been called to find a new councillor to replace the late Councillor Cullen. In the coming weeks officers will be making arrangements for the election and sending out polling cards to those registered to vote in the Eccles ward.

“Anyone not currently registered to vote has until Wednesday 5 October 2011 to do so. This is your opportunity to have your say on who represents your community and views on the council and make your mark in Salford.”
