Credit card charges when you make an online payment in Salford

Please note that from 5 July 2012, if you use a credit card to pay your council tax or business rates bills, a transaction charge of 1.4% is payable. The other listed payment methods or payment types do not attract a charge.

With the online payments service you can pay your council bills with any of the following types of credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Solo, Visa Delta, Visa Electron).

If you are in a public place we strongly advise you make sure you are not overlooked as you enter your details to prevent them being misused by somebody else.

Please select your requested service from the list below. You can add more than one service request or payment before deciding to process them.
Payment types

Business rates
Council tax
Housing advances
Housing benefit overpayments
Housing rent and service charges
Penalty charge notices for car parking
Sundry debtors
Tenants contents insurance

3D Secure

3D Secure (also known as Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode) is like a chip and PIN for your online payments. It is designed to protect you by asking a secret password.

Developed by Visa and MasterCard and used by most payment websites, it has rapidly become a widely accepted standard.

If the bank which provides your debit or credit card has adopted 3D Secure then you will be required to register at some point in order to be able to continue paying online with your card.
Registration

If you have not registered for 3D Secure already then you will be prompted to register whilst making an online payment at a participating website.

A secured screen provided by your bank will appear during the payment transaction. You will be asked to enter details of your credit or debit card and a password of your choice.
Customer validation

The next time you make a payment online using your registered credit/debit card, you will be automatically prompted for your 3D Secure password. In seconds, your bank will authenticate the transaction and confirm that you are the individual making the purchase. You can then complete the payment transaction.

Not all payment website owners participate in 3D Secure at the moment, but this may change over time.
